[A3055] Monitor Pass (Rt 89) near 395 - (4:28 PM) An amazing view of the basin (Topaz) below. I'm at around 8000 ft and the valley below is at about 5000 ft.

[A3057] Monitor Pass (Rt 89) near 395 - (4:33 PM) As I drive down to the basin, I can see just how much of the landscape has been torched. Almost as far as the eye can see (except for the first front), burnt tree skeletons line the landscape. Look closely!

[A3060] Walker (on Rt 395S) - (4:51 PM) On this flat stretch of highway, cow ranches populated the valley. See the black and brown dots? Each one is a cow!

[A3069] Sonora Junction (on Rt 108W) - (5:36 PM) From 395, I turned onto 108 W and started climbing up again. This scene was at perhaps 6,000 ft (as opposed to 5,400 in Walker).

[A3076] Sonora Pass (on Rt 108W) - (6:04 PM) This was taken near Sonora Pass (9,624 ft). The road was smooth but extremely steep, which afforded views like this.

[A3085] Near Kennedy Meadow (on Rt 108W) - (6:15 PM) The sun had already set in this part of the mountain and the light on the aspen was reduced. By increasing the time that the shutter was open, a brush-like effect is produced as a result of the wind rocking the leaves.

[A3089] Near Kennedy Meadow (on Rt 108W) - (6:18 PM) This photo had a very long exposure time as you can tell by the blurryness of the leaves. If you looked closer, you'd see parts of the tree are pretty clear, as well as the surrounding trees. That is because the wind had the most effect on the top portion of the aspen.

[A3090] Near Kennedy Meadow (on Rt 108W) - (6:19 PM) The sun has set long ago behind where I stand, but its light is still reflected beautifully in the distant sky. The next photo emphasizes the color more dramatically.
