4/19/2002  - Shanghai: Local streets, Museum of Art, Buddhist Temple, Pu Dong Airport

April 19, 2002 (Friday)

[4768]  Shanghai as viewed from my hotel window.  Similar to other cities, the sky scrapers are surrounded by a maze of apartment buildings.  The satellite dish belongs to the hotel.  Shanghai is by far the most modern city we visited on this tour.

[4773]  Shanghai as viewed from my hotel window.  In the distance you see the city skyline.  Close by, however, you can see greenhouses and gardens.  An interesting contrast.

[4785]  Streets of Shanghai. Lots and lots of bikes and buses taking people to work.  Parents and grand parents are also taking the kids to school.

[4791]  Streets of Shanghai. This is the entrance to an elementary school.  Note the three little girls in blue in front of the gate - they greet the students as they come through the gate.  On the other half of the gates stand three boys, as the next picture shows.

[4948]  Shanghai street scene.  Across from the restaurant where we had our last lunch in China, a barber sets up shop on the sidewalk with a stool and a bag of tools.  His customer is getting a shave!  A shop nearby is selling noodles and peking duck.
