It was a perfect day for a hike to Murietta Falls from Lichen
Bark parking area in Del Valle Regional Park, through the Ohlone
Wilderness. It was sunny with an occasional breeze and pretty
perfect temperatures. The grueling trek (12.3 mi, 4000' elevation
gain, see trail map with calculations here)
was made more bearable by the beautiful wildflowers. We saw probably
at least 30 different varieties from shooting stars to indian
brush to buttercups to fiddlenecks, larkspurs, and on and on.
The Murietta falls itself was almost dry but the hike had been
worth the intense workout. Timewise, we took about 6 hours (including
breaks): 9:55am to 3:45pm.
Also see the same hike from
2008.
