April 4, 2004 - Monte Bello open space preserve Post your comments on the new discussion board! This hike was attended by 9 people: Al, Rose, Songyuan, Jessica, Tin, Van, Elan, May, and Paul. It was a little chilly but it was pleny sunny, especially in the open space. We started hiking around 11am and hiked for about 6 miles. We saw coyotes twice, well, I did anyway. The rest of the group saw one of them. There were plenty of wildflowers although I felt they were smaller than in previous years, as if from draught or something. Nevertheless, we saw many varieties. I haven't labeled most of these photos - if you know what they are, let me know and I'll put it up below the photos. We started on the Stevens Creek Nature Trail but came off it quickly and rerouted to the Canyon Trail to head upwards in elevation towards Black Mountain. From Canyon Trail, we went on Bella Vista trail and then Old Ranch Trail which took us to the backpack camp. Here we had lunch and then continued to Black Mountain. At 2800', it's the highest point around the area. There we had a 270 degree view of the mountains and even parts of the Silicon Valley and the bay. From Black Mountain, we returned to the parking lot via Indian Creek Trail and then Canyon Trail. The total elevation change was about 800'. Enjoy the photos! Post or Read Comments. See
