On Sunday, March 31, 2002, 10 hikes explored the wonders of Point Reyes in Marin county.  Point Reyes is one of Bay Area's treasures - full of wildlife and majestic sceneries.  As there are over 150 miles of trails, we will definitely be back to hike again in this park.  I made a mistake with the time change (it wasn't to take place till 4/7) but despite such, everyone showed up on time - 9 AM (which turned out to be really 8 AM again!).  Sorry about that!!!

The ride to Point Reyes from Fremont (see info page) was pleasant and not too long - about 1.5 hr.  While the East Bay and the penisula were enshrouded in fog, once we crossed the Richmond bridge, the sky cleared up and it was sunshine with fabulous visibility.  The temperature was as perfect as could be -  about 70 degrees.  We hiked for about a total of 8 miles, including a short side trip to the Wittenberg summit (highest point in Pt. Reyes) to have a picnic lunch.  There was abundant wildlife, including many varieties of wildflowers and plants.  The forests were cool, like the redwood forests but dinstinctly different in shape and design.  Birds sang wherever we went.  Definitely an instant classic hike!!

After the hike, we drove farther north for about 10 miles to the Tomales Bay Oyster company - an oyster farm.  You'll see the pictures of the huge oysters and the very pretty view overlooking Tomales Bay.  There were barbeque pits on location to bake the oysters, which is what we did.  Afterwards, on the way back to south bay, we stopped at a Taiwanese restaurant in Berkeley for dinner.

Sounds fun?  It sure was!  Be sure to sign up for the next Point Reyes hike.  Nature, sun, fun, food, and good company, what more can you ask for?
